Zuner Than You Think? Good Mischief, Indeed

One year closer to the grave.

Today’s my birthday but before any of my six loyal visitors hit “leave reply,” you should know I’m not big on birthdays and do absolutely nothing to celebrate them. Ever.

I can recall three birthdays off the top of my head: when I turned six and my family took me to Six Flags, when I turned sixteen and was able to drive and when I turned twenty-one and was able to drink… legally. (I don’t actually remember-remember that last one but I’m certain I must have had a good time.)

The rest? Meh. Not so much.

This is a notable birthday though for a reason only other ad monkeys can appreciate: it’s the first– and I’m serious, here, the first– birthday I’ve had while working at an agency where I haven’t been on the road traveling. Seriously. The first.

It actually became somewhat of a joke at one of the places I worked. “Hey– Mack’s birthday is coming up; we need to send him to Chicago for a client meeting.” I would have been on the road this year, too, but a client meeting (in Chicago, no less) was postponed by a week.

So happy-happy-joy-joy, I get to spend a birthday at home. Sort of.

It seems my beloved she monkey has conspired with Michel and Tamara to make some sort of mischief this evening and I’m not entirely certain what the plans are.

Whatever they are, they should know I’m not big on birthdays and do absolutely nothing to celebrate them. Ever.

Loyal? Hmmm, when I started reading the guy said we’d get paid. Haven’t seen a check yet though. Oh well.

    Happy Birt…

    Sorry.

In honor of Independence Day, (thought it was the 16th no? Only thing I remember from my Cuervo days).

So in honor of that, both of you have a Mexcellent birthday.

I never celebrated, either, not since I was a kid. Ater a little, brush-with-death spell a few years back, I realized one day is as important as the next - that pretty much cemented the deal.

As for She Monkey…you would appear to be a lucky, lucky man.

Well I’m probably #7. Though I’m not sure I’d call it loyal. Started reading just a few weeks back.

    Happy Birthday dude!

    Hope you have many more.

Thanks for the well wishes, all.

And welcome, Paul. It’s always nice to meet someone new from Austin.

I don’t celebrate those things either, but the people around me are maniacal about making sure everyone gets their day in the sun, whether they want to or not. I was rather grumpy about the extent of the festivities last year. This year I managed to be out of town, but when I came back, there was a “non-birthday” celebrattion, where it was categorically declared via email that, while we were having snacks and tea in Chip’s office around Chip’s birthday time period, it was in no way to be construed as a birthday celebration. Not being sure of how to have such a non-event, the assembled few sang the chorus of “Margaritaville.” It was damn-near bearable, except that there was no beer and I had a lot of work to do that afternoon.

Celebrate your birthday by bobby for tequila, or a rum cake. I recommend starting any client finance team meeting with either of those behaviors. The key to making it happy for you is DO NOT SHARE. Happy Happy from sunny Boston!

Drunk as I am, that should have been BOBBING for tequila. Bobby is my brother.
