I was rather grumpy about the extent of the festivities last year.This year I managed to be out of town, but when I came back, there was a "non-birthday" celebrattion, where it was categorically declared via email that, while we were having snacks and tea in Chip's office around Chip's birthday time period, it was in no way to be construed as a birthday celebration. Not being sure of how to have such a non-event, the assembled few sang the chorus of "Margaritaville." It was damn-near bearable, except that there was no beer and I had a lot of work to do that afternoon.
