From the “Ouch” Department
As passed on via a new link in my blogroll, “Putney Swope,” I give you this: a quote from Omnicom’s chairman, John Wren, taking AdAge writer Mathew Cramer to task over some comments Cramer made in one of his articles.
“With all due respect, I have to bring you up a little bit short in thinking about the ad-agency-proper, as you would put it, the idea that magazines like yourselves and your competitors are the voice of what’s happening in marketing today. You’re not.”
Pow.
I met Wren when he flew in for our high-profile pitch for the 7-Eleven business and I have a lot of respect for the business acumen of the man (a respect that has nothing to do with the fact he raised the average personal wealth of Dallas the moment he touched ground at the airport). It’s fun to see him pimp slapping the pundits.
The only thing that would have made it better is if Wren had signed off with “I’m John Wren, biatch!”
