Busy Saturday in Monkeyville
I had to wake up early this morning and head downtown, in Matilda of course (despite being in a coat and tie), in order to perform my duties as a member of the Scottish Rite. Waking up at 6:00 A.M. on a Saturday should be forbidden by law.
Afterwards, swinging north, I picked up the ingredients for Sangrita. I have a regular poker game every Saturday night and there’s always tequila involved. This week, I’ve decided to indoctrinate the crowd in the propper way of drinking it. I managed to fill 9 1/2 bottles of my finest recipe (passed on to me by fellow admonkey Michel) for distribution this evening and on Monday.
Next on the hit parade is taking the she monkey to a political rally for Kinky Friedman, a character- - with emphasis on the word character- - who’s running for Governor here in our great state. God help us if he wins, god help us even more if he doesn’t.
Later this evening, I hope to take my friends’ money in our little friendly game (helped along with copious quantities of Sangrita-backed tequila congelada).
Lastly, I woke up this morning to an article in the New York Times profiling São Paulo and calling out where we stayed (the Emiliano) and one of the many places we ate (the Figueira Rubaiyat) when we were there shooting our Gatorade spot.
I can’t speak of São Paulo in terms as glowing as the article’s writer, but then I was there to shoot an outdoor location spot in the middle of a freak spate of rain and not to wine and dine on the Times’ tab. My ulcers grew ulcers during our twelve days there and, while I can intellectualize the fact it wasn’t the city’s fault, I continue to hold a grudge (despite everything working out in the end).
Still, I’m looking forward to a shoot in Rio. I’m a glutton for punishment.
Update: 2:30 A.M., 03/12/06: Spoke to Kinky about segmentation, got a signature, wound up a few dollars ahead in poker. All in all not a bad night, though I see a headache’s handwriting on the wall tomorrow today.
